I’ve had so much on that I’ve had no time to paint (or finish things I’ve started) or sketch/draw…

October will see things calming down so I will be back properly.  Until then, here’s something I did for my aunts birthday in August.  Can’t wait to catch up with all your blogs x

A work in progress…

The little boy who I drew the turtle for has a friend who asked for a dragon.  Here he is

Someone at work asked if I would draw their son a turtle (the little boy asked his dad to ask me).  So here is the little turtle.

I’m unsure how to sketch water so I’m not sure if it has come out clearly that he’s swimming… it’s something I need to practise

I got carried away with this one and didn’t take a break; I now have a really sore shoulder from hunching over it (I tend to crawl around my canvas rather then using an easel throughout)… totally worth it though due to the sentiment behind it

I’m back!  And have stuff to post!

I’ve had  a quiet couple of months regarding blogging, due to a not so quiet couple of months in the non wordpress world.  Things have now settled down so here I am… and I’m back with a painting… that I have just sold!!!!!

My cousin told me a friend of hers was looking for a painting and suggested that she have a look at my blog as I do sketches and have tried painting before.  Her friend was happy enough with what she saw so asked if I’d do a painting for her.  She told my cousin what she was looking for (colours, ideas) and I did what I could.  I told her she was under no obligation to buy if she did not like it.  Lucky for me she did

There are so many amazing songs out there that can touch you and make you laugh, smile or cry.  That can trigger memories or bring images to run free in your imagination; there are some that can make me stop and hang on every word, almost holding my breath.  A number of songs inspired Scar Tissue; when I would hear them I would sketch in the moment, never finishing her.  David Grey ‘This Years Love’ was one of the songs that helped create her…

“Start to forget how my heart gets torn
When that hurt gets thrown
Feelin’ like I can’t go on”

(she still doesn’t seem finished to me but I think that adds to the feeling behind the image… incomplete)

Then I saw an image of a small child with the expression that all young children have at Christmas, that we all once had, the wonder, the surprise, the curiosity, the pure amazement of the magic before us; everything from sparkly baubles, fairy lights, snow flakes to empty boxes and pretty paper caused us excitement and caused a bubble of excitement deep within to burst.

Christmas means many different things to many different people, a time of forgiveness and joy.  A time of perpetual hope… Tis the season to be Jolly!  It’s a Holy Night.  A peaceful night.  It’s a time to show love and kindness.  A time for giving.  A time for making someone smile and spreading the joy.  And of course, it’s for the children…

There were hidden gems everywhere.  This little door beneath an old tree was one of my favourites.  Many people wandered past without even noticing it which, to me, added to the magic; like I was part of the secret

The deeper you went into the woods, the more you discovered…

… like the picnic area.  Such a truly magical place!

I wish I could have taken the child me along with adult me, she would have adored it… I probably wouldn’t have been able to drag her away though; the adult me just about made the exit I’m not a photographer, the images were taken on a standard digital camera so really I have not done the woodland justice.  I’m just a daydreamer (and a drawer) who wanted to share something beautiful at this magical time of year.  Hope you enjoy them and that they take you somewhere amazing
